Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication.
– Stephen Covey
Why do this?
What do you think your client says when they find out that you’re coming to audit them?
I would imagine that it would be too rude to publish here!
No one wants to be audited (unless they’ve just taken over from the old boss). The whole situation is bound to give your client sleepless nights. They may even feel their job is under threat; and their job is their baby – it fills them with joy when it goes well and nothing feels as low as the lows. If you can’t dispel their fears and build a relationship, then you are going to struggle.
An auditor once asked me how to get his clients to just tell him what was wrong. Guess what? It’s simple.
You need to earn your clients trust and respect by holding effective audit conversations during your mission and they’ll be happy to collaborate.
Master verbal communication and relationship building skills which will enable you to gain your process owner’s trust and make them want to collaborate with you from day one!
What are the benefits?
You will start by learning how to build a strong bond of trust with the client at the start of the mission so that you can get them to open up and share information with you on the control gaps.
You will master powerful psychological persuasion principles so that you can maintain a cooperative relationship with the client and resolve any negative behaviour which may occur.
Furthermore, you will know how to summarise your key findings in a compelling way so that you can reach an agreement with the stakeholder and get them fully committed to your recommendations for improving the control environment.
- Dealing with negative and non-collaborative behaviour from the process owner to get them to work with you; and how to manage difficult conversations so that you can always avoid conflict
- Using persuasive communication techniques to minimize resistance from the process owner and get their buy-in by relating your findings and recommendations to their stated business objectives
- How to deliver bad news without ambiguity, time-wasting or hedging so that you can tell the process owner exactly what the problem is and furnish them with all the information they need to fix it
- The 4-Step Review Strategy for presenting the key findings of your audit mission to the process owner and your senior managers in a persuasive, concise, engaging, compelling and memorable way
- How to make recommendations with the best chance of getting the full commitment of the process owner and therein create agreed management actions which will get closed
This is a practical and engaging workshop backed up by robust theories from psychology and communication theory and with role-play exercises replicating the exact challenges you will face on the job.

I expected the Audit Report Writing Workshop to be a very dry and theoretical course with instructions on how we write reports in Vodafone.
But to tell you the truth, I came home and I said to my wife: “Susan, today I’ve had the most amazing training I’ve ever had!” – and I’ve had some great training!
The report writing training was fantastic – the difference being that the trainer really knew how to bring the message across. The training was very interactive. It not only taught me how to write in the most efficient and professional way but also how to make a powerful connection with the reader.
All in all, we not only learnt how to write reports, but we also learnt how to communicate effectively which I think is the key. That was the real added value of this course.

As a training experience, Financial Report Writing Workshop took our attention from the very start – not just me, but the whole group.
People were saying: “Wow! It’s 9 o’clock on the day of the first session and we have already defined exactly what the key problem is with our report writing.”
I would definitely recommend this financial report writing training. It’s not just about the books and the materials, but it’s important to learn things that you will remember at work and know how to use.
I immediately applied what I learnt from the training into my real business life. The expertise of the trainer and how the training was delivered was the key to success here. What is delivered is important, but how it was delivered was what I would also like to recommend. In this sense, it was better than 99% of the training I have had till now.
